Breast Lift

Also known as mastopexy, a surgical breast lift involves the removal of excess tissue which has a tightening and lifting effect on the breasts. Factors such as natural ageing and gravity, pregnancy and breast feeding, and weight gain and loss can dramatically impact the breast tissue. Many women experience feelings of shame and discomfort around sagging breast tissue, sometimes to a degree which seriously impacts on happiness, confidence, and quality of life. Breast lift surgery can restore the breasts to a more lifted and youthful state, restoring confidence with it.

How Does A Breast
Lift Work?

Unlike breast implants, it does not involve the insertion of materials, but rather works on the existing skin to lift up the natural breasts which have sagged downwards due to ageing, weight loss, or breast feeding. There are multiple techniques which can be used during a breast lift, depending on your goals and which aspects of your breasts and/or nipples you wish to address. Incisions may be made around the areola (surrounding the nipples) downwards between the areola and the breast creases, or horizontally along the breast creases. Your doctor may also place stitches within the breast tissue in order to reshape. Incisions are closed with stitches, surgical tape, or adhesives. Your procedure may take several hours to perform, and many patients are able to go home the same day.

How Do I Prepare For
Breast Lift Surgery?

You should be in good physical health prior to surgery, as well as at your ideal weight – as weight gain or loss can impact your breast tissue and size. Your doctor will advise you regarding any medications that need to be ceased, including herbal supplements such as ginkgo and St John’s Wort. You will be required not to smoke or vape for several weeks prior to your procedure. You may be given antibiotics prior to surgery. We recommend preparing an appropriate recovery room at home including bedding, ice packs and a thermometer, and a loved one should stay with you for 24 hours. You will be given compression garments to wear and must avoid strenuous activity or heavy lifting. You should expect your breasts to be swollen and bruised for around 2 weeks following your surgery.

What Are The
Risks?

All surgical procedures carry various risks. Scarring is an inevitable aspect of surgery, but your doctor will provide certain products and instructions in order to minimise this as much as possible. Infection is another possible risk of any surgery, and compliance around aftercare instructions is essential. While many of these may be small, the following are possible risks associated with breast lift surgery:
