Dermal Piercing Removal

Dermal piercings, which can be applied to areas like the cheeks, chin, arms, hands and legs, are semi-permanent pieces of jewellery which lay flush with the skin. Unlike an ear, nose, or belly button piercing, the back of the jewellery cannot simply be clipped onto the back of the post. The anchor is instead installed below the skin, hence the name dermal piercing. They are inserted using needles or skin punches to puncture the skin, before using forceps to insert the anchor below the skin’s surface. The top of the jewellery then attaches on top of the skin. Since the anchor of the dermal piercing sits in the dermis, removal requires a small surgical procedure.

What Can I Expect During
Removal Of My Piercing?

This procedure is fast and simple. First, the visible component of the jewellery will be unscrewed, before a short massaging of the jewellery’s base/anchor in order to dislodge it. Forceps are then used to remove this from the tissue. The wound will then be closed with sutures or adhesive, depending on the size.
