What is Xanthelasma?
Xanthalasma are soft, yellowish cholesterol deposits that commonly appear on or around the eyelids. They are benign (non-cancerous) but may gradually enlarge over time.
Although xanthalasma do not usually cause pain or medical harm, some patients seek removal for functional or cosmetic reasons.
A consultation is required to assess diagnosis, suitability, and appropriate management options.
Why a Consultation Matters
At Skinnotion, all minor surgical procedures begin with a comprehensive consultation. During your consulation, our clinical team will assess:
- Confirm diagnosis
- Discuss your medical history
- Assess lesion size, location, and skin type
- Discuss treatment options
- Explain risks, downtime, and expected healing
- Determine whether surgical removal is appropriate
In some cases, blood tests may be recommended to assess cholesterol levels.
Not all patients are suitable candidates for removal.
How is Xanthelasma Removed?
Removal is typically performed as a minor surgical procedure under local anaesthetic.
Depending on the lesion and clinical assessment, removal may involve:
- Surgical excision
- Cautery techniques
- Other clinically appropriate methods
The procedure aims to remove the visible lesion. However, recurrence is possible.
What to Expect after the procedure
Recovery varies between individuals.
Common post-procedure effects may include:
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Temporary redness
- Scab formation
- Mild discomfort
Healing time depends on lesion size, skin type, and individual healing capacity.
